Free isn’t Necessarily Free Blog March 27, 2017

March 26th, 2017

Don’t make the same mistake that I made.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 “FREE”

Nothing is ever FREE… as advertised on the internet or in those email promotional ads. You know, the ads that say get it “FREE,” such as, get “FREE” makeup samples or cleaning samples. And all you need to do is fill out a simple survey.

Well, I thought, hmm, why not fill it out. I’d like some free samples of products. It’ll only take a few minutes.

Trust me, don’t do it. Thirty minutes later, I was still going from screen-to-screen answering questions. And to top it off, I never did get to the product offer that I wanted to try FREE. And then I did find something that I thought was a winner. So, I clicked on the product and here we go again. Screen after screen of redundant questions. But, this was it.
I was now into an hour of time wasted. And okay, I forgot to mention that you never have to pay postage on any FREE item.

Huh! Remember, I had already checked on a product. And I went through the entire question/answer promotional come-on. But, low, and behold, I got to the bottom of the survey and it said, “Just pay $4.95 shipping & handling costs.”

Now, I was outraged. So, I didn’t finish the FREE promotion. I logged off and went back to work. I was in the middle of writing letters of intent to Barnes & Noble. You see, I have five books ready to pitch to them in hope that the books will be accepted.

It wasn’t any more than fifteen minutes later and the phone rang. Yup, it was a telemarketer trying to get me to try sample products. And all I needed to do was answer a few simple questions.

Needless-to-say, I asked to be put on the no call list. But, the calls kept coming all day. I must have said a dozen times. “I’m on the do not call list. Please don’t call me again. I don’t want any FREE sample products and I don’t want to answer any questions.”

But, will this stop me from getting more telemarketing calls? DOUBTFUL.”

You can be rest assured that nothing in this world is completely FREE. There’s always a catch. These FREE promotions are a sales gimmick. I knew better, but I’m as guilty as the next guy. If I can have something for FREE, I’m gonna take it.  But, all the great reading stuff on the K. Lorraine website, is FREE. You ask, “What’s the catch?”

The catch is, I’m building my BRAND. Offering something FREE is a smart promotional tactic. K. Lorraine is a product. I write books to make money to pay my bills. To make this happen, I need to get people to know me. And a way to do this is by offering a sample of my writing skills, FREE.

You become more familiar with the name K. Lorraine, the more times you see it in print. You become more aware with the types of books, I write, when you read one or two. You become better informed with the person behind the name, the more blogs you read about me.

I give my books away FREE in the Reading Room, to draw you as an avid reader to my webpage. As I said before, I have a ‘catch too.’ I need you to become more aware of the author in me. I write blogs & books to entertain my audience. I write because I love what I do. I write because I want to amuse you. I want to make you think…

Footnote – think about this.

I just got an internet promotional ad. “FREE” Obituary Search. You can bet that I’m not going there…
BECAUSE, I just might find myself there…

Until next week.
Happy reading, K. Lorraine

Bienvenida, Welcome to our desert New Mexico home

In June, 2016, my husband and Ed and I decided to return to our Southwestern home. We had spent three years in Southwest Florida living in our waterfront home. Ed was homesick and longed to be in the desert again.

So, we packed our bags, circled the wagons and it was westward ho for us. It was a five day adventure as we crossed the country. Two thousand miles, in fact.

We decided that we didn’t want to live in our New Mexico house the way it was. We wanted change. Interior design is a passion for Ed and me. So we set out to change each room, one-by-one.

This blog features the colors and culture of the southwest. And how we incorporated them into the design of our dining room.

I hope you enjoy a tour of our New Mexico dining room.

My New Year’s Resolutions–2017 by K. Lorraine

January 1st, 2017

My New Year’s Resolutions – 2017 by K. Lorraine

A New Year’s resolution is a tradition for most. A person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something nice. I’ve given thought to my personal resolution for the New Year.

First of all, I’m going to focus on the enjoyment of life. Ed and I are not getting any younger. So, I want to spend more quality time with him. Travel and antique shopping, (hunting) is our favorite thing to do. We’re back in New Mexico and hope to revisit many New Mexico sites during the year.

I was just interrupted by the news that Carrie Fisher died at the age of 60. It brought back the memory of when I met her. I lived and worked in Midland, Michigan. I worked as the Public Relations person for the Center for Independent Living. She (Carrie) performed at the Center for the Arts, and I had the chance to attend her performance.

Carrie Fisher’s death, due to heart failure opened my eyes to my own life. I was recently diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure with Unstable Angina. The sadness I felt for the loss of an icon, changed the way I thought about the rest of my life.

Ed and I returned to Roswell, New Mexico this past June. We moved back into the house we built in 2005, but this time, we decided the desert would become our forever home. The city has grown, yet it was familiar to us. We reconnected with some old friends. And others were now gone.

The following piece is a small excerpt of an article I wrote in 2015.

The Formula for Aging…

Dependent… in the beginning of life.
Middle of life… all the stuff that made me one of a kind.
Dependency… Equals The End.

Rewinding is going back toward the middle. The middle is where all the stuff that makes us unique and one of a kind is warehoused.

The aging process for someone with a chronic illness is like going back in time. It’s like rewinding from our adult independence and becoming infants once again. But what happens when the fittest become the frailest? And that self-reliance becomes a mandatory dependency?

Babies enter the world with only one power: the power to elicit the emotion of tenderness and a caring response to them from other humans. Babies depend on their caretakers and the society in which they develop. It is the stuff that makes us human.

* A baby may cry when he needs the help of someone.
* An infant cries because it’s their only way to communicate.
* Babies cry when they are hungry.
* Sometimes babies cry when they are in need of a diaper change.
* If a baby is tired and needs comforting, he may start to cry.

Help Me… I’m old.

The aged are sometimes virtually immobile. They cannot creep, walk, or speak, and they are limited in the ability to act with purpose. At the end of life, the dependent aging of the world has only one power. The power to elicit the emotion of tenderness and a caring response to them from other humans.

Life can be overwhelming for aging adults.

When the aged engage in behavior that is like a child, they can feel like their world is turning upside down.  When you are parenting an elderly person who becomes ill, dependency becomes a ‘given’.  Society has to manage many disjointed feelings and identities. It’s strange how we all know we will get old, but nobody prepares oneself to handle the cascade of losses.

Why did I include this piece about aging? It brought to mind a bucket list of things I’ve not yet fulfilled. Lady Justice, and the balanced scale of life, has not yet balanced my life. I’ve accomplished a lot, and I’m thankful for each new day, but, there is still a lot that I’d like to finish.

This brings me to my professional life, and my New Year’s Resolutions.

Something I want to do is getting right to the point. I want to learn how to say what I need to say and move on.

I think that short eBooks are becoming a trend. People are busy–and getting busier by the days. They look for a quick read.

People like instant gratification–a short eBook can give them that. People are sick of “fluff”. Short E-books that make a point quickly. They get to the good stuff right away.

Amazon is catching on to this emerging trend. There are now a variety of “Short Reads.” Categories for books ranging from a few pages to under 100. My ‘Me Time short stories’ are a perfect example. I have some quick reads on Kindle E-books. They are less expensive too.

I don’t believe in setting a specific word count for a book. I think a book should be as long as it needs to be. Some books need more words and pages, and some need less. There’s no point in stuffing a book with extra words that don’t need to be there. I prefer to let the readers decide.

I sat down and began to write my goals as a writer for my New Year’s Resolutions.

*I plan to remind myself that I am a great fiction writer. Positive thinking is a good thing.

*Bad habits are hard to break. I have a lot of bad habits as a writer, but I’ll always study the craft of writing and try to improve what I write. I’m not likely to ever change.

*Regardless that I don’t… I’ll convince myself that I have millions of readers all over the world.

*Instead of saying that my plans are to be a best selling author; I will reinforce that I am a best selling author.

*I am creating my dream writing life.

My 2017 writing goals are:

· To write a WEEKLY BLOG

GIVE ONE–TAKE ONE–A Blog about two Public Libraries

October 17th, 2016

Give one, Take one
Blog about two Public Libraries

 Sanford, Michigan Little Free Library

Two thousand miles separate them, but the vision of spreading the joy and power of sharing books is the same. Author K. Lorraine supports both libraries by sharing her books. A list of books that are on the library shelves in Sanford, Michigan and Roswell, New Mexico, follows.

About the author:

K. Lorraine is a recognized author who has written 112 ‘five star’ short stories. To date; she has received seven ‘First Place’ wins. She has also achieved many ‘Recognized wins,’ for her work.

A young Kathleen wrote her first book titled ‘Pockets’ for her daughter, Rebecca. It was a birthday gift when she started her first year in school, the book never saw the light of day. But, some of Ms. Lorraine’s later works did. The upcoming author writes her stories under the Pen Name of K. Lorraine.

Ms. Lorraine resurrected her interest in writing after a thirty year absence. But, she kept her skill of writing fine-tuned when a local newspaper offered her a staff writer job.

Ms. Lorraine divides her time between writing different types of adult human drama. Her favorite genres are romance and murder/mystery. She also has to her credit, a series of children’s stories.

Ms. Lorraine and her husband Ed, of twenty-five years, live in Roswell, New Mexico. They have five children from previous marriages. They are also blessed with six grandchildren.

library3K. Lorraine is humbled and honored to announce that the Roswell, New Mexico library has accepted the following books.

The author’s most recent book is a novel;
“The Playboy Prince”

The novel is Part mystery, Part romance…

“You are an amazing author and so very gifted indeed. You are awesome.” Comment Written 04-May-2016 by foxangie123

DP replied “The ending did surprise me.” Written 06-May-2016

The idea for ‘The Playboy Prince,’ came to mind in 2006. Over the years, the storyline continued to grow. I allowed the intrigue in the life of Hale Lake Kahuka-Dano, to flourish.

The first half of the book focuses on Hale Kahuka’s childhood.

The second half is about the rogue Interpol undercover cop. His obsession was to find the man who murdered his Grandfather, Judge Dano. Hale Dano’s obsession becomes his life’s mission.

The Playboy Prince is brimming with emotion from the beginning to the end. Hale Lake Kahuka–Dano is the 6th generation grandson of King Kahmehameha. Hale Dano invites you to follow his story as he goes from being a youngster, to becoming a mature man.

Poetry in Motion

Ms. Lorraine said, “I had NO CLUE that ‘Poetry in Motion’ was going to be as popular as it has become. I didn’t even have it in my head that this would be my first book to go so far. In two days, the book has gotten another 192 LIKES and 10 more comments and reviews. Since publishing, the book has received 5,000 Facebook LIKES, views and comments.”

The book, ‘Poetry in Motion’ is a collaboration of 52 contemporary poems. The poems are fiction and are creations of the author’s imagination. Some of the entries date back twenty plus years. She invites you to come into the magical world of imagination. Many of the pieces are award winning poems.

Seychelles Survivor

It was orientation week at the University of Iowa. Five freshmen students from different parts of the country sit together in a college lecture theater. The group is unaware they share a common interest.

The five college friends set out on a tropical paradise vacation over a long 4th of July adventure. Two days later, the parents get the word that the private jet is missing.

Surviving a plane crash can be a terrifying thing. The tension mounts as the story draws to a close on a beautiful tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The setting is compelling and the dialogue is real.

‘Seychelles Survivor’, is about a family separated by a plane crash. The families band together to find their children.

The book ‘Seychelles Survivor’ has had more than 40 reviews. The author has selected a few for your reading pleasure. “The background kindles the reader’s curiosity. I love your emotional appeal. It’s indeed your specialty– one such as I want. Thanks for creating such an emotionally mature character as Lei Lani. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless.”  Comment Written 11-Dec-2014

“I thought this piece was very well written and thought out. The emotional impact of the wedding and the epilogues pregnancy was very deep and profound; the love between the husband and wife clearly shown and made plain in the simple and elegant wedding they had. I liked the way God was invoked at the time of the ceremony, the prayers seemed genuine and realistic. That was the thing about this piece I really liked, the realism of it and easy readability. Five stars!”  Comment Written 10-Dec-2014

“Selfishness can only come to harm in the long run. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very strong read.”  Comment Written 20-Nov-2014.

Beyond the Twilight Zone

‘Beyond the Twilight Zone’ is a series of unrelated stories. The book contains drama, psychological thriller, fantasy, science fiction, suspense, and/or horror. The stories often conclude with a macabre or unexpected twist.

The book is a compilation of short stories that will take you back in time to the original Twilight Zone series. Ordinary people find themselves in situations that they try to solve.

Ms Lorraine thought you might like to read a few reviews.

Fan Reviews…

The Pirate Story – 76 views – 6 stars

“Boy, that was a trip! You took the story thread down many pathways. I enjoyed just following along, wondering where and how you were going to tie it all up. It was fun. You write with great confidence and authority. I like the way your mind works, delivering us a bit of everything. Some pretty explicit sex scenes, lots of angst and pathos, a bit of melodrama. A terrific mix, all in all.”

Space Mishap – 23 Fan Views

“An eccentric oddity and a kook cause a delay in getting home. The dialogue is clear and shows what the characters are like. The narrative shows the action, such as hitting the wrong panel, stepping in the cow poop. The emotion felt was a warm feeling with a big smile.”

We Came Upon a Ghost Child – 62 Fan Views – 6 stars

“An awesome and creative story, although sad. Well written. “Daddy, it’s only terrible when the truth doesn’t come out.”

“Kitty, is this your daddy’s car?”

The Dark Side of Being Different – 58 Fan Views

“I’m not one for sci-fi, but you did a miraculous job of capturing my attention the whole story through. You described the aliens in great detail. You moved the story along as an accomplished writer would. It’s obvious that you invest time and thought in your writing. Your story was well edited and polished.”

Lethal Injection-50 fan views

“Chilling, frightening story. You made it even more so because something like this could actually happen. I’d tend to agree with Detective Stabler. His assessment that a user would not choose their mouth as an injection site for the heroine. It looks like this Wall Street exec bit off a bit more than he could chew with his selection of hired hookers.”

Through a Mother’s Eyes-50 fan views—

“You deliver a short but powerful piece. The last words linger long after I finished reading the story.”

Haunted Manor – Voodoo Murder

He sat back in his swivel chair and lit an electronic cigarette. He watched her step out of the 1964 Rangoon Red Thunderbird convertible. She was wearing four inch sling-back heels with legs that went up to her neck. He exhaled a continuous chain of smoke rings. She was stunning in a close-fitting black wiggle dress. Her blood red lips made his testosterone level rise.

Burton Middleton had a lucrative and successful writing career. But his passion for the written word as a noted Historian ended after his beloved wife died from lung cancer. Leaving his Yankee roots behind him, he moved to the ‘Big Easy.’

Black letters spelled out Middleton Private Investigations on the glass door. The office door opened, and the ‘Bombshell’ walked in. He was completely unaware of how his life was about to change.

“Haunted Manor: Voodoo Murder, is a steamy, sexy, bone-chilling thriller. The book is steeped in southern superstition and tradition. The author combines a Mashup of Voodoo with a beautiful antebellum manor that ends in MURDER.

‘Mashup’ is a new genre concept in literary writing, and it is fast becoming popular. In ‘Mashup’, the story is when you take two or more different genres and mix them together. This technique is masterful in bringing about a new and fresh storyline.

The author mashed a ‘Civil War’ College Professor, along with a haunted manor. She came up with a story line that ends in Murder.

Writer’s Digest suggests that K. Lorraine has been using ‘Mashup’ technique for years.”

Comment – April 22, 2014

“I call this a ‘Genealogy murder’ story. A Civil War plantation owner’s mistress passes down the twisted gene of voodoo superstition. Trust me, there is a lot of ‘mystery’ in this book.”

Mia Perez Series

Comment – May 10, 2014

The Mia Perez Series is a collection of five stand alone stories. Whether read one after another, or separately, they become a compelling story of Mia’s life.

Book One – ‘Unethical Doctor’, Mia Perez was lucky to be alive. She was the only survivor of the fatal accident. Induced into a coma by the Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. Aidan Chase, was a merciful way to help the long healing process.

When Mia awoke from her coma, the first person she saw was an attractive man. But she was unaware it was the doctor who had saved her life. The doctor opens the door to an unethical desire to win over his patient’s affections.

In Book Two, ‘Unfit Mother’, Mia Perez is young. She is naive. Her parents reared her in the strict native traditions of Brazil throughout her entire life. She came to America in hopes of finding a rich American man. But, she finds a world full of freedom and choices instead.

Uninformed about sex, she learns that even a woman with a disability can get pregnant. Mia is desperate when she learns the results of a drugstore pregnancy test. She slept with two men. She feels the pressure to get one of them to marry her.

Book Three, ‘Shhh’ is a short story of 18,000 words. The long awaited reunion of the Callan brothers is nearing. Mia has had an imaginary love interest with an American movie star, Tobias Callan, for a long time.

She uses her sexy curves to toy with the brothers. And she knows exactly how to please them all night long. But will Mia’s passionate encounter with Tobias set off a series of events?

Will a one-night stand, turn into a risky scheme of manipulation? Will the sex tape destroy the brothers in a whirlwind of emotions over the love of one woman?

Book Four, ‘Locked Away’, Mia Perez sends the Callan brothers away after a bad break-up on her wedding day. She banishes the two men from her life that she’s loved.

‘Locked Away’ is a second chance story. The suspense grows when the tapes come out about Mia’s sordid past. The story is about the entanglements of love. Will Mia finally get her fairy tale marriage with one of the Callan brothers? Or will tragedy strike?

In the fifth book titled ‘Beyond a Kiss’, Mia Perez becomes obsessed with solving a two decade old murder.

In the series, five men have loved her: her father, Juan Perez, a wealthy Brazilian coffee plantation mogul; Aidan Chase, the handsome young doctor who saved her life; Nicholas Starks, her water therapy coach whose unconditional love saved Mia from self destruction; and there were the Callan brothers, who Mia toyed with.

It was her plan to manipulate the brothers and get the man she loved to marry her. Nicholas Starks, was not husband material, but he always came to her rescue.

After two decades, the reading audience will learn the killer’s identity. Will this discovery affect Mia’s future plans for happiness? ‘Beyond a Kiss’ is a page turner murder mystery with an unexpected ending.

The Me Time E-Books provide you with a quick escape into a world of passion. And even an occasional happy ending.

“My name is Mia Perez and this is my story about the love I have for the men in my life.”

The Misadventure of Walter and Katy Shuster series-Book One
The Adventure of the Traveling Green Ants

Something on the dashboard caught her attention. She amused herself as she chased them about as they scattered.
“What,” she spouted off, “Damn, they are multiplying faster than I can squash them!”

Katy was on a mission of her own as she began to sing off-tune. “And Another ant bites the dust; another ant bites the dust.”

Walter and Katy Shuster were about to begin their annual trek from SW Florida to New Mexico. But, the ‘comedy of errors’ began sooner than later.

“Find out how Katy Shuster, became known as the Notorious killer of the Alien Green Ants.”

“Great book on adventures in Florida after retiring–a great read, and funny! Don’t miss this one!” comment – January 20, 2016

“A light-hearted piece, easy to follow…”
Margaret— Comment Written 09-Mar-2015

“That was cute how you had the wife say, “Aren’t you forgetting something?” The amusing part is when he goes to the rear of the car and takes a look. This wet my whistle.”
Comment Written 07-Mar-2015

“It was a fun book to read. Since I’m a “junk dealer” (antiques) I liked that part.”  Teresa

Ground Control to Major Tom

September 10th, 2016

Ground control to Major Tom

They say when it ain’t broke… don’t fix it. I had written a blog the other day about travel to Arizona and it was my biggest blog success story thus far. In fact, I received roughly 120 LIKES and numerous comments, and that’s not bad for a newbie blogger. So, I thought… try it again and see what happens. Do folks really like to read about different places in the world?

Today – I want to take you to visit Roswell, New Mexico where I currently live. The state of New Mexico is beautiful no matter where you go. There are mountains, foothills, plains, desert land, big cities and small towns. The climate varies depending on where in New Mexico you are. No matter what… New Mexico is a great place to see, and in my case, I live there.

My husband and I built our home in Roswell in 2004. Hurricane Charlie and three other storms hit us hard that summer. We had visited Roswell at least eight times previously. It was our intention to have a western home and leave the south behind. We accomplished our vision and our new home was almost ready for occupancy when Charlie rolled in off the Gulf of Mexico.

I’d like to blog about that story at another time, but right now, fasten your seat belts because we are about to land in Roswell.

Maybe I don’t live real close to the airport, but on some days, not too close is… too close.

In the summer of 1947, a rancher discovered some unidentifiable debris in his sheep pasture outside Roswell, New Mexico. Although officials from the local Air Force base, asserted that it was a crashed weather balloon, many people believed it was the remains of an extraterrestrial flying saucer. History reports that a series of secret “dummy drops” happened in New Mexico during the 1950’s that heightened suspicion.roswell-museum

Nearly 50 years after the story of the mysterious debris broke, the  U.S. military issued a report linking the incident to a top-secret atomic  espionage project called Project Mogul. Still, many people continue to embrace the UFO theory, and hundreds of curiosity seekers visit Roswell  and the crash site every year. Some people believed–and still believe–that the crashed vehicle had not come from Earth at all. They argued that the debris must have come from an alien spaceship.

These skeptics grew more numerous during the 1950’s, when the Air Force conducted a series of secret “dummy drops” over air bases, test ranges and unoccupied fields across New Mexico The experiments, meant to test ways for pilots to survive falls from high altitudes. Featureless dummies with latex “skin” and aluminum ‘bones’, bandaged, dummies, that looked an awful lot like space aliens were supposed to fall from the sky onto the ground. Whereupon, military vehicles would descend on the landing site to retrieve the ‘bodies’ as quickly as possible. To people who believed the government was covering up the truth about the Roswell landing, these dummy drops seemed just as suspicious. They were convinced that the dummies were actually extraterrestrial creatures who were being kidnapped and experimented on by government scientists.roswell-alien

Today, I plan to blog about the Roswell, NM International Air Center Airport and its uniqueness. During World War II, the airport was called the Roswell Army International Airfield. And during the Cold War, it was known as the Walker Air Force Base. When it closed, it was the largest base of the United State Air Force Strategic Air Command. Roswell International Air Center was developed after the closure of Walker Air Force on June 30, 1967.

Since the base closure in 1967, the City has converted the extensive airfield complex to civil aviation use. The RIAC is home to a fireworks factory, a plastic manufacturer, a builder of buses, a candy manufacturer, aircraft repair and refurbishing companies, and the Roswell Municipal Airport.

All classes of general and commercial aviation activity can presently be accommodated at the RIAC (Roswell International Air Center), including training and research operations as well as equipment maintenance and testing programs. The Eastern New Mexico University has a campus there, and aircraft repair and refurbishing companies including AerSale have airliners stored on-site.

The Roswell International Air Center covers an area of 5,029 acres with two paved runways. The industrial sites and buildings are available for lease with the RIAC, no tenant should lack of space.   airport2

The site was used for several years to launch stratospheric balloons for Air Force projects. The airfield also serves as a storage facility for a number of retired Airbus A300-600R wide body jetliners formerly operated by American Airlines.

In 2002 a series of charter flights operated by Trans World Airlines (TWA) with Boeing 676-300 aircraft were flown into Roswell in order to transport trainees for the Federal Air Marshal service. This training was conducted at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in nearby Artesia, New Mexico.

The Boeing Company uses the airfield for braking performance testing of its aircraft, most recently the testing of BF Goodrich carbon brakes on the Boeing 737-900ER model. Brake testing has also been performed on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the airport.

A New Mexico National Guard unit uses several buildings on the airport grounds. Since I’ve lived in Roswell, Sarah Palin, Hank JR., President G.W. Bush, President Obama, among other music groups, celebrities and politicians have flown into RAC. Their planes have flown directly over my house.

Roswell is an aircraft Boneyard. Deserts, such as this one, in the Southwestern United States, are good locations for Boneyards since the dry conditions reduce corrosion and the hard ground does not need to be paved. Boneyards are either kept as storage locales or have their parts removed for reuse or resale and are then scrapped.

In August, 2016, the RAC became the temporary retirement home for 20 American Airline jets. The planes are to be restored in Roswell as the airline determined the future for the planes. The aircraft were flown in from all parts of the country.

Today, as I wrote this piece, nearly two dozen airliners flew into Roswell. So not to interrupt regular air traffic, these jets were directed to use an alternate course with some landing five minutes or less from the previous one. That’s a lot of air traffic at one time to deal with on the ground below.

By now, I imagine you know what I’m leading up to. These aircraft took wing over my house. David Bowie wrote the lyrics to the song ‘Space Oddity’ and the song goes like this.

“Ground Control to Major Tom…

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on.”

Needless-to-say, this is how I felt for the hour and a half as the American Airline jets tore up the sky.

“This is Ground Control to Major Tom. You’ve really made the grade. Far above the world, Planet Earth is blue, but now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare” , at the Roswell International Air Center.

I look the liberty to paraphrase the lyrics a bit to fit my story. Data from: LyricFind. Lyrics provided for educational purposes. Photo: courtesy Bing Images.

I do admit that it was a spectacular sight to see the fleet of plane race across the atmosphere. More of the McDonnall Douglas-80 models are expected in the future to arrive in Roswell. When this happens, I’ll be prepared with my earplugs, helmet, and binoculars. BRING – IT – ON!

Next Generation: Love in Silence

2011 Alien Festival book debut

Welcome back! The UPSIDE DOWN coffee table book blogs resume.

‘Alien’ is this weeks addition to my blog. In 2011, I was writing a book called – A Next Generation, “Love in Silence.” The book is a fun, lightly sexy, life-altering love story based on the classic of Romeo and Juliette, but with an alien twist. I designed the painting especially for the book cover based on the story.

Humanity crosses a threshold and romantic tension grows when an extraterrestrial falls in love with an earthling. Curiosity erupts when Juke, the alien, needs to fulfill his assignment of learning about human sexuality. Sonoma, an earth girl, learns from the alien, that lovemaking on Earth is very different from making love on the Galaxy that existed beyond the stars.

Juke is of two minds – to stay on Earth, or to return to his home planet. The star crossed lovers had a tough decision to make. Juke had a need to successfully fulfill his mission and take the scientific data back to his people. Sonoma discovered that to leave Planet Earth could expand her mental ability to evolve and grow beyond her wildest expectations, but she would need to sacrifice a great deal as a result.

Spacecrafts continue to come and go without detection. Do our friends from the Heavens walk among us daily as they may have for centuries? Roswellites would search the faces of the “Unusuals,” during Alien Festival week for years to come and the question asked was, “Would it be an additional 60 years before another intergalactic incident brings human life and extraterrestrials together again?

This was my first published book in the history of my writing career. You could say, that Next Generation: Love in Silence, was my jump start to my writing a real book. This little story – flaws and all – gave me the courage to pursue what I’ve always wanted to do… and that was to write, and publish a book.

The book is available at http://klorraine Kindle Books & Createspace

Today’s Blog 7/8/2016 Not Always on the Same Page

July 8th, 2016

TODAY’S Blog 7/8/2016

A bonus of two posts in one…

My editor and I aren’t always on the same page. She lives in the eastern time zone and I live in the mountain zone. This means that her day gets started two hours before mine. Often times, I have prepared my blog the day before and then I email it to her so she will have it bright and early the next day to post on FB.

Sometimes, this approach doesn’t always work. I set the wheels in motion and post a tickler on FB when my day get started… two hours later than on the east coast. This is to direct you, the reader, to go to my website and read the new blog. Unfortunately, I don’t always go and check to make sure that my words are there for you to read.

Case in point… I sent my blog to my editor in plenty of time for her to complete the task of checking it for mistakes and then post it for the K. Lorraine fans to read. Instead of going to my website first, I just went ahead and e-mailed out the same blog to those in my address book that I had prepared for the webblog. I also had already posted my invitation tickler for the readers to go to my website and peruse the new article.

But whoops… Louise, my editor/friend could not open the word file that I had sent. For some unknown reason, I think the cyber gods were at play on this day and threw a monkey wrench in the whole works. No doubt, many of you did take my invitation to heart and went to http//  to read a new blog. But, nope… nothing had been posted.

I take blame for this messy situation. I had played hooky with my husband and we went shopping for some new furniture and accessories. When we moved from Florida to New Mexico, we didn’t bring a house full, only half a house full of things with us. We had learned through trial and error that going from the south to the southwest, not all kinds of décor transitions.

So, I digress, and I will attempt to start over by repeating the tickler from the other days invitation to read my blog. I’ll even add a tidbit more now about the story. This happened this morning as I checked my FB messages.

Overnight, an additional 116 more LIKES and comments came in from around the globe regarding the summer blockbuster book… ‘Poetry in Motion.’ I’ve lost count, but the total tally must be nothing shy of 5,000 FB responses. Thank you world for your part in keeping me a ‘happy’ camper.

Happy Reading, K. Lorraine

This is well written and informative. I hate change. Right now I’m coping with a new

update to my computer. I can’t find anything and it’s driving me crazy. I can’t imagine

having to move half way across the country. I’d be ready for the loony bin. Good luck in

your new home.
