I thought I’d change up this week’s blog up a bit.

The new movie Beauty and the Beast debuted in the theaters this weekend. “Despite her fears, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff. And she learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior. She realizes the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.”

This prompted me to delve into my archives. I remembered a short story that I had written. I found it. I thought you might enjoy my version of a take on Beauty of the Beast from 2015, Alien style.

Darkness protects us from seeing the things we would not rather see. She was gone and he needed to run or face a life of interment in the underground penal camps. They had taunted him mercilessly… He had no time to weep over his deceased mother’s body.

Oden, and his fellow aliens of Planet, Eco, were a race of giants. They weren’t particularly loathsome or terrible. They were gentle and didn’t commit atrocities, or torture innocent creatures. They didn’t try to lay claim over them in victory. They were noble, charming and indifferent. They had beautiful feral brown eyes and unruly brown hair.

Oden’s mother was an alien endowed with a mid section of enormous proportion. Her inherent absent-mindedness gave her a misfit quality. She was always in a hurry. Her large feet forced her clumsiness.

Azalia, Oden’s mother, fell hopelessly in love with Sprat. Sprat, unlike his wife, was a handsome Alien specimen. He was blessed with windswept chestnut hair that arched across his hairy forehead. His high cheekbones showed off his otherwise handsome face. His tall, slim build was deceptive. And the alien colony referred to the couple as unusual.

After their marriage, Azalia soon became pregnant. She gave birth to a defective one-eyed Alien boy. And his parents named him Oden. The alien colony ostracized the couple. Azalia had given birth to a displeasing child. He was hideous to look at.

In spite of the criticism, Sprat loved his wife and son. He did everything in his power to protect them from the harsh alien community where they lived.

As a child, Oden was violent. He used his uncontrollable nature against his peers. Azalia worked hard to teach Oden methods to help calm and control his behavior.

She read about how the Earth developed a means to tame children with behavioral problems. She believed in her love. She would find a way to protect him at all cost. She sought an appropriate environment to conquer the evil that possessed her child. She wanted to help Oden achieve inner peace.

Azalia was sure their problems would end if they moved to the Planet Earth. She said to Sprat, “My husband, our son is becoming excessively troubled. And this is causing him to lose more control. If we don’t act soon, we might lose him forever in the behavioral correction camps of the Aliens.”

Sprat answered, “Azalia, I know your desperation well. I want our son to be normal. And I sympathize with you. I understand it is your desire to make this happen, regardless of the costs. Wife, if it will help Oden, then we must move.”

He was different from his peers on Planet Eco. They had heard of the Earth’s catacombs beneath New York City.

The Planet Eco was a safe, clean and brilliant environment. The Planet’s World Leader created the embodiment of positive progressive growth. So, his parents saw fit to arrange for his transport from his home planet. And, Oden and his parents moved anyway. But, once settled on Earth, he knew he had to flee from there too, or he would perish.

They had moved to a place where the air was sour, the citizens were hungry and the water was putrid. Its citizens lived in surroundings covered in dust and filth.

Oden didn’t understand the meaning of a vision his mother had. She described a vision she had on the day of her death. She spoke of angels. She talked about the sounds of ethereal music with its beauty. She talked of vivid colors; a place filled with everlasting peace.

Oden knew the reason for his mother’s death. She had inhaled Earth’s stagnated air. It saddened him that he was now alone without his mother. Sprat couldn’t accept Azalia’s dying. He knew it was for the best to leave his son on Earth.

Sprat returned alone to his home Planet of Eco to mourn the death of his wife, Azalia.

Looking into the future seemed fruitless for Oden. He failed to see how this new World called Earth, would help him. He only saw that his life would end in death, caused by prolific diseases of microscopic bacteria. These tiny micro-orgasms lived in the wastewater of Planet Earth. He reasoned that humans had become immune to the abundant toxicity existing around them.

The earthlings told Oden, that his deformity was a punishment. The punishment was because of his parent’s prior acts. The humans called Oden a Cyclops, and they feared him because he was different.

This crushed Oden’s heart. Love was the reason behind his birth. He now realized that the beauty of love would never belong to him. The humans banished him to live his life in the sewers under New York City.

For the first time in his meager existence, Oden was cognizant of his deformity. It was a disgrace that he could no longer ignore. His wrath, hatred, despair, and anger brought forth a thousand lightning flashes. A horrid light radiated from his eye.

He used the power bestowed by his departed mother. It was a gift of her love. She left him with the power to remove the disease and pestilence from the Earth’s air and oceans. The release of the epic energy calmed his violence and his broken heart began to mend. In an instant, he absolved humanity of their stupidity. He forgave them for decimating the rain forests and depleting the world’s natural resources.

With this forgiveness, Oden was no longer a pathetic and lonely Cyclops. He forgave them for the chaos and the annihilation of the world’s oxygen.

But, in doing so, he no longer had any power. He lost the ability to free himself from the anguish of a heart that discovered brokenness.

Scion, a beautiful street dancer from Planet Eco had come to Earth.

“Go Scion. Go to Earth and do what you can to help my son.” Sprat said.

She was in awe of Oden’s reverence and humility. It was her job to show him all the excitement and wonderment of the world above, through her eyes.

“Oden, your father sent me from our planet to show you the beauty of love.”

But she was too late. Oden had already made up his mind. The hope that once lived in his was gone. His heart now only saw bitterness and failure.

She saw Oden pull his knife from his belt.

“Stop, Oden, don’t do this.”

But, her words were in vain. His full lips quivered. His chest heaved starving for air to fill his lungs. And his thoughts were drowning him. He thrust the knife into his heart. Scion’s voice went unheard, and Oden fell to the ground.

Scion rushed to his side. She offered him a drop of water. But from that orb which had been so dry, a big tear fell and moistened the earth.

She cradled the dead mutant’s head in her lap. She closed his one eye and said, “Oden, your father sent me to return you to your native world. Your purpose was to open the eyes of the citizens to your bravery and heroism. But on earth, they still hide in the darkness with closed eyes. They avoid from seeing the things they would not rather see.”

Scion accompanied Oden’s body from the underground catacombs of New York City. An intergalactic shuttle was waiting for him in the shadows of the skyscrapers. The magnificent spaceship carried Oden’s lifeless body home to a hero’s welcome.

He had abolished his hatred and turned it into a selfless act. He had given his life in the hope of saving humanity.

Planet Earth was a dying planet that once mirrored his beloved homeland. But the earthlings still were blind to the dark side of being different.

At his memorial service, Scion elaborated in her eulogy. “The gentle Cyclops left his home planet as an outcast. But, he has now come home to his native world. We recognize that Oden deserves praise for his humanitarian service. He needlessly lost his life in another world. All because, humans failed to see his inner beauty over his external beast.

The K.Lorraine Reading Room announces Book #2—-Dark Secret

February 20th, 2017

The K. Lorraine Reading Room announces book #2 – Dark Secret

The Reading Room book #2, will hit the shelf during the first week of March. Thus far, the K. Lorraine website has had 8,951 visits. This is quite an accomplishment.

Those who have stopped by to say hello, have found many interesting areas to read. Today, I’ve chosen to write about the Reading Room, since it is the newest part of the webpage.

The Mia Perez Series is blazing a trail across the globe. The stand alone books are HOT… so, why am I giving the books away one-by-one, you might ask?

The answer is simple. It’s getting more people to read them. It’s called a ‘marketing strategy’. I plan to get you hooked on the Mia Perez stand alone stories.

Once you start reading the first book, ‘Dark Secret’, in the Reading Room, you will want to come back and read the next book in the series.

In the original Mia Perez series, 2014, Unethical Doctor is the title of book one. But, because the series is still available for purchase, I needed to change the name and book cover. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to give it away FREE in The Reading Room.

Warning… Rated R. Adult content, Language

Reviews written about Unethical Doctor… This was such an intriguing story and romantically awesome!! I have to imagine that a doctor and patient relationships isn’t uncommon. I had many melancholy for Mia being traumatized by such a fatal accident resulting in permanent spinal paralysis and due to her affliction, it was still quite a devastating circumstance to accept. I could understand her feelings of how unfair life can be sometimes, the fear as well as the enmity of once having useful working limbs to suddenly being impaired. It’s a blessing she survived such a tragic incident and due to her extensive career as well as for the affectionate attraction of her doctor all was not lost, in fact, I think she gained something very beautiful… Love! I truly enjoyed your story, it kept glued to the very end! Comment written 12-Sep-2014

A well written story that has a good flow, making it a very enjoyable read. The descriptions were also well written and gave a real feel for the crash scene and the hospital. Just enough to imagine without being too much. I also liked the dialogue, which seemed very natural. Comment Written 31-Aug-2014
This is very well written, mystery writer, you did an excellent job writing this story about the patient and doctor who fell for each other, during her recovery. I enjoyed reading it.

**********
My strategy is that you’ll like everything about book ONE, ‘Dark Secret’, that you won’t want to wait month-after-month to read the entire five books.

Mia Perez was lucky to be alive after making it through a near fatal accident. She was placed in an induced coma by the Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. Robert Chase.

When Mia awoke from her coma, the first person she saw was a very attractive man. But she was unaware it was the doctor who saved her life. Dr. Chase’s failing marriage opened the door to unethically begin competing for his young patient’s affections.

Dr. Chase manipulates ways of sexually arousing Mia Perez. He takes her to the depths of her subconscious where she had never gone before. Mia begins to wonder if Dr. Chase made love to her for research as a doctor, or from his heart as a man.

Dr. Jayne Anne White, psychologist, cautions the doctor that his patient is focused on her insatiable needs to please men. She has difficulty in learning how to adapt to the realities of paraplegia.

For Mia Perez to survive her post- injury depression, Dr. White realizes she would need to spend a great deal of time with her patient. But would Mia ever find the love she desired? And when does a gentle touch, turn into rape?

**********

I’ve talked about the book ‘Overcoming’, before. Although the Original book was good, I felt that I could improve it. Since the book Overcoming first came out in 2012, I’ve found a grammar check software. The editing software has made the re-writing task easier.

I also learned that most readers didn’t want to invest a lot of time reading a novel.

So, I dismantled the original Overcoming novel into five sections. The story was rewritten and became the Mia Perez five book Series.

In the earlier book, Overcoming, Giovanna Valdez was the protagonist.
Overcoming then became a five book series, The Mia Perez Perez stories.

In the 2017 revised book, ‘BROKEN’, Crisis of Faith, I kept the protagonist’s as name, Mia Perez. I reassembled the five books and joined them together. I’ve given the book new cover art in order to give the five book series a facelift.

‘BROKEN, Crisis of Faith, is a compilation of the five Mia Perez series. So, it is once again, a full length novel. The new novel will release in March, 2017, on Amazon Kindle… in the E-book store.

I still think the original story was a good book and deserves to return to its original venue of a full length novel.

As the author, I wouldn’t dissuade you from reading the original book. But the five stand alone stories are rewritten to improve the novel.

In the revised books, the storyline hasn’t changed. The new version has a slight plot twist. All-in-all, whichever version you choose, the book is the same.

‘BROKEN’, Crisis of Faith, IS AN EMOTIONAL, INSPIRATIONAL, TRIAL AND TRIUMPH STORY.

In conclusion, I hope that you will return to the Reading Room in March. Regardless, if you don’t want to read the entire five Mia Perez stories, ‘Dark Secret’, will give you insight. Life is not easy as a person with a disability.

Until next time…

Happy Reading!

BIENVENIDA—-WELCOME TO OUR DESERT NEW MEXICO HOME!

February 6th, 2017

Bienvenida, Welcome to our desert New Mexico home

In June, 2016, my husband and Ed and I decided to return to our Southwestern home. We had spent three years in Southwest Florida living in our waterfront home. Ed was homesick and longed to be in the desert again.

So, we packed our bags, circled the wagons and it was westward ho for us. It was a five day adventure as we crossed the country. Two thousand miles, in fact.

We decided that we didn’t want to live in our New Mexico house the way it was. We wanted change. Interior design is a passion for Ed and me. So we set out to change each room, one-by-one.

This blog features the colors and culture of the southwest. And how we incorporated them into the design of our dining room.

I hope you enjoy a tour of our New Mexico dining room.

BEING A BULLY

January 30th, 2017

BEING A BULLY
I’ve noticed a few blogs that weren’t so nice. They were about President Trump’s son, Barron. Spog would like Barron to be his friend. Spog would like to share his book with Barron.

The book ‘Spog Tames a Bully’, would explain to him that bullying is an aggressive behavior among school aged children. Bullying is when a child is humiliated, or tormented (bullied).

Kids who bully use their power— such as the power of physical strength, or access to embarrassing information, or using popularity to control or harm others. Bullying behaviors have the potential to happen more than once.

Bullying might include: Threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone in a physical way or verbal way. It might also exclude someone from a group on purpose.

Bullying can occur during or after school hours. Most reported bullying happens in places like on the playground or the bus, and sometimes in the lunchroom.

I thought this is a good time to post a blog about Spog the Alien boy.

It was in 2013 that the first Spog book came out. Spog borrowed his mother’s spaceship and came to earth. He ran out of gas and tried to land his spacecraft in a yard. But, he had an unfortunate accident and crashed it in the branches of a tree. This is when he met Joe, an earth boy. And their adventures began.

The boys have had seven adventures since 2013. The stories are available to buy through the K. Lorraine website. You will also find some cost saving coupons.

Adventure number seven is the subject for this blog.

‘Spog Tames a Bully’, is about a bully who ruled the school’s playground. Mean Spike was his name. And his favorite thing to do, was to trip kids. He would laugh when they got hurt. He also liked to take things that they were playing with. He called it– ‘keep away.’

Mean Spike also got pleasure in teasing the kids and called them names. He spread rumors and lied about what happened on the playground.

Spog wanted to help the children of Roswell Elementary School. Spog talked to Joe about ways to help the new kid, Spike, fit in at school.

On Spog’s native planet Apple, he learned about a way to change an unsavory character. He thought the plan might work well on earth too. With the help of Professor Al Right, the children initiated a way to show the boy that kids have feelings too.

The book will help children to become inclusive toward a kid who is not so likeable. You will find out how the bullying stopped at Roswell Elementary School. And find out what ‘Mean Spike’ changed his name to when he changed his behavior.

Spog invites you to read his book, ‘Spog Tames a Bully‘.

Spog and Author, K. Lorraine sends you a BIG hug and a thank you for reading this week’s blog.

The Cobbler of Tinkershire

December 17th, 2016

My editor Louise and I hope that you will enjoy our Christmas gift to you. The following is a NEW story that I’ve written for the Snuggles children’s bedtime collection. The Cobbler of Tinkershire is a delightfully written fairy tale. The story is an updated portrayal of the Cinderella story. So, snuggle down in front of the fireplace and read the Cobbler of Tinkershire to your children & grandchildren. Merry Christmas from Louise & I.            K. Lorraine

Once upon a time in the land of Tinkershire, in the Glenn of Emerald, lived a cobbler and his daughter.shoemaker

The cobbler was a kind man who saw to it that the people had shoes that met their needs. Queen Eleana and her son, Prince Harry, were his biggest customers. The queen had a foot fetish. But her feet were large, so the cobbler wasn’t able to make anything stylish enough to please her.

Queen Eleana was an ogre, and she was cheap. The queen was a tyrant and disliked throughout the land. The more fiendish she got the uglier she became. She was beyond dreadful and resorted to hide her face behind a veil. And the only people who she allowed to see her face were Prince Harry and Lizard the Wizard.

So, she sought advice from her Sorcerer, Lizard the Wizard, and asked him to seek out the fairest maiden in the land. His job was to create a powerful hex to steal the maiden’s beauty. This magical spell would rob the good looks from the fairest of maidens. And in return, the queen would no longer look unsightly.

Lizard the wizard set out to find this creature of loveliness. He knocked on every door in the land of Tinkershire. But a mortal with exquisite beauty did not exist. “Knock, knock,” was the noise that his knuckles made as he rapped on the door.

“Good day, Sire Cobble,” Lizard said. “I’ve come to call upon you as ordered by Queen Eleana.”

“Does the queen wish for a new pair of shoes?” Sire Cobbler asked.

“No Sire, the queen mum is looking for a new chambermaid.”

“Everyone in the land of Tinkershire, in the Glenn of Emerald, knows that I am an old man who lives alone. I know of no one who fit the queen’s need.”

Just at that moment, Lizard the Wizard happened to look up to the top of tower above Sire Cobblers store. He thought the curtains shifted, but he could not see who peered out. Sire Cobbler had spent his life protecting his daughter, Graciella, from peering eyes. But shameful men were the only ones who came her way.

Graciella’s beauty was dazzling, and Sire Cobbler feared that his daughter would come to know a man who wanted to hurt her. So, to his shame, he kept her hidden away in the tower of his shop where she spun golden threads on her spinning wheel. The old man used these threads to bind the shoes he had crafted for the queen. This was the only way that he could make the shoes appear grand enough for royalty.

Wizard Lizard took his unfortunate bad news to Queen Eleana. Furious that he could not find a fresh young maiden whose beauty she could duplicate, she banished the wizard to the dungeon. Yet she knew, in time, he would escape. After all, he was a magician and he was familiar with all the tricks of the trade.

In the mean time, the Golden Moon Ball was nearing. The Moon Ball happens once a year when the moon appeared in its biggest and brightest. It was one of Mother Nature’s miracles. Queen Eleana loved the fall harvest festival, yet, she despised humans. The yearly jubilee was the exception to the rule. She sent word to Sire Cobbler that he was to design the best ever pair of shoes for her. And for once, she would spare no expense.

The cobbler accepted the challenge. For the first time, the queen was willing to pay a fair price for the shoes. He thought and thought about the task. But the only idea that came to mind was to use two rows of golden thread to fasten the body of the shoe to its sole. He crossed his fingers and hoped the idea would charm the queen.

Instead of sending a messenger to pick up the royal shoes, the queen sent her son, Prince Harry. He was happy to oblige his mother. The errand, got him out of the castle and gave him cause to search the surrounding streets for a date. Prince Harry was a good catch, not only because he was a prince, but he was fetching.

Yes, Harry was a prince, but he had grown bored with the regal blood of the neighboring kingdom. The noblemen’s daughters were the only females regal enough for the queen. Harry wanted to settle down with one woman and raise a family. The queen was aging, and he would then become king.

**********
As he approached the Sire Cobbler store, a flash of light caught Harry’s attention. He gazed upward toward the shop’s tower. He saw a young woman. She was a vision of loveliness…

“Sire Cobbler, I have come to fetch Mother’s dancing shoes.”

“Good day, young Prince Harry. I have the queen’s shoes ready, yet I’ve never known her to dance.”

“Yes, Sire, you are correct, but, I can hope.” Prince Harry cleared his throat and said, “Sire, I am in need of a date for the Golden Moon Festival. Might you have an idea?”

“Well, Son, I’m an old man who lives alone, and I don’t socialize. Why would you ask me for such a favor?”

“Sire, I noticed that someone is in the tower of your shop. Is the young lady an employee or perhaps a relative?”

“Young man, you are quite perceptive. Her name is Graciella, and you need to know nothing more.”

“Well enough, Sire, but if your guest would care to join me at the festival, then please send word. I should like to meet the fair maiden in the tower.”

“Sire, the queen sends generous pay for the shoes.”

“Thank you, Prince Harry, and I will give thought to your request.”

**********
Sire Cobbler gave great thought to Harry’s need for a date for the festival. He was also beginning to have a change of heart. Graciella was his only companion, and he was her only friend. The old man remembered about Wizard Lizard, who had dropped by a few weeks back. “Graciella, please come down from the tower,” her father said, “I want to talk with you.”

With cheer in her eyes and a bright smile, she said, “Yes, Father, what is on your mind?”

“An inhabitant in the shop’s tower took notice twice, in the past few weeks.”

“I’m sorry Father, if the questions disturbed you. I will do better so no one can see me.”

“It is I, Graciella, who should do better. I was wrong to hide you away for so many years. I’m an old man and I feared that the evilness of the world would find you. I should have trusted your better judgement over my fear.”

“Father, who were the men you talked about and what did they ask about me?”

“Graciella, the first person was Wizard Lizard, who is a subject of the queen. He had asked about a new chambermaid to add to Queen Eleana ‘s staff. And the young man was Prince Harry. He asked about you a short time ago. He is the queen’s only child and heir to the throne.”

“My goodness Father, why would the prince come calling?”

“He dropped by to pick up the queen’s new shoes. He called it the perfect opportunity to search about for a young lady to join him at the Golden Moon Festival. Graciella, he asked if you would like to be his date?”

“Father, I’m not worthy to go out in public with royalty to a ball. Besides, I don’t have a party dress or dancing shoes to wear.”

“That’s an easy fix, Graciella, you could go to the castle and ask for an audience with the queen. Perhaps, she would hire you as a chambermaid. And then, at night, you could spin more gold threads for me to make your dancing shoes.”

Graciella went to the castle to see the queen. She, of course, salivated over the maiden’s beauty. Wizard Lizard had not escaped his chains, so, the queen spared the time and expense to hunt him down. The queen called for the castle sorcerer, and together they began to hatch their plot.

Graciella questioned why the queen hid her face behind a veil, yet, she thought better than to ask why. She did her job and earned her gold tokens. Sire Cobbler melted the tokens and Graciella spun the golden threads. But she had not yet met Prince Harry.

Sire Cobbler thought it best if she did not stir up more questions. She gave notion to the prince to think that she was an out of town visitor. Graciella knew the difference between right and wrong. But she also didn’t want to disobey her father.

In passing at the castle, Harry saw his mother’s newest hire. But his curiosity wasn’t piqued. She appeared tousled, and her messy look disturbed him. He stayed clear from her, and yet there was a familiarity that haunted him.

Prince Harry revisited Sire Cobbler. “Sire,” he said. “I’ve come calling to ask if your house guest Graciella is still here?”

“Yes, she is, but I haven’t seen her in several days. I sent her to the castle to have an audience with the Queen and apply for a job as a chambermaid. I’m sorry, son. Perhaps, you have seen her in the castle.”

“Yes, Sire, I think I have.”

But when Harry, returned to the castle to look for the scruffy maiden, she was not anywhere within its walls. This seemed strange, and her absence bothered him. Harry tracked down Wizard Lizard in the dungeon where he was practicing black magic.

“Wizard, have you seen an unkempt young maiden?”

“Why do you ask me about the hired staff?”

“I don’t trust my mother, and I don’t like your wizardry.”

“What is your interest in this maiden, if she in fact exists?”

“Wizard, she in fact, does exist, and I want to know what witchcraft you are mixing up?”

Prince Harry went to Nexus, the ‘White Witch’.  She lived by the rule not to use her magic for personal gain. Nexus was a good witch. Her purpose was as a protector of the innocent.

“Nexus, I believe that evil has fallen upon a chambermaid in the castle. Her name is Graciella, and I believe Wizard Lizard is doing the queen’s bidding.”

“There is only way to find out if this is true. Come with me Harry, and we will look into the cauldron of truth.”

Nexus mixed up a potion of observance. She said a few words in the circle of magic. The thick fog began to scatter. And in the still water was the reflection of the Queen Eleana. A black veil hid her face from view. The queen was not a pretty maiden, so she often hid her identity from the public.

Prince Harry said, “Nexus, what is the black magic called that Wizard Lizard is doing?”

She answered, “Queen Eleana hid her ugly face behind her black veil. Sorcerer Lizard is performing a magical illusion. He is performing a change. The spell will change the queen’s face to look like the lovely maiden.”

“White Witch, can he stop this spell?”

“No, Prince Harry. The change has already taken place. But, I will mix up some ‘white magic’ that will get rid of the ‘black magic.’

“The queen will be spellbound to her ugliness forever, and the fair maiden will win over the kingdom.”

“Tell me White Sorcerer, how will this happen?”

The magician explained how the ‘white magic’ worked. And they saw the good luck charm needed to safeguard the trickery.

The night of the Golden Moon Ball arrived. Prince Harry went to see Sire Cobbler to explain what his mother and Wizard Lizard had done. Sire Cobbler came clean about not telling the truth about Graciella.

“How can I help you get my daughter back?” The old man cried sorrowful tears.

“Sire, I will need a personal item that only Graciella knows about.”

“I have the perfect thing. I made her a pair of dancing shoes woven from the gold Graciella spun on her spinning wheel.”

**********

The queen was center stage. She rested in her chaise lounge. Suitors of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, wealthy or poor surrounded Graciella. Or so the guests at festival thought. Sire Cobbler mingled with the people and Harry went to say hello to his mother, the queen.

The first thing the prince noticed was the queen’s tiny feet. Of course, he knew that his mother’s feet were size thirteen. “Good evening, Mother, are you enjoying the festival?”

“Not at all, Son, but you know it is a duty as the queen of Tinkershire that I must attend the yearly event. Are you enjoying the dance, Son?”

“Not so much, Mother. The young maiden I planned to invite as my date left town without any notice.”

“Too bad Harry. You should have followed my wishes. I wanted you to ask Wizard Lizard’s daughter, Hildegard as your date.”

“Mother, she is an ox whose face needs some ‘black magic’ for improvement. Yet, I would like to know the identity of the blonde haired maiden who has a lengthy line of suitors.”

“Never mind,” the queen said, “She is one of my chambermaids, and she is a nobody.”

“I want to meet her myself and I, the prince and heir to the throne, will decide for myself if she is worthy of my attention. What is her name, Mother?”

“Her name is Graciella, but I forbid you, my son, to ask a chambermaid to dance.”

“Graciella, that is a pretty name for an attractive maiden. I have a will of my own Mother, and I wish to dance with the maiden Graciella.”

She peered through the flimsy translucent curtains. Her eyes piercing through the veil of disbelief.

“No, Harry, I forbid you to dance with a maiden, who is a servant.”

But Harry approached the fresh faced young, woman whose cheeks flushed a rosy pink. Her blonde hair hung over her shoulders in long, shinning, ringlets. Little bits of hair framed her heart-shaped face. And her rosebud lips emphasized her dimpled cheeks.

It was her gentle, expressive crystal blue eyes and long dark lashes that he remembered most.

Graciella stood tall and proud. She demonstrated bravery and showed a self-confidence. Graciella might not have started out as a princess, but she held all the elements inside to become a good one.

Harry’s thoughts were to save Graciella from Wizard Lizard’s treachery. He extended his hand to the maiden. “Would you join me on the dance floor and honor me with your grace and elegance?”

The maiden raised the hem of her pale blue satin gown. And beneath the lace of her petticoat came into view the  size thirteen oversized shoes of Queen Eleana. The same shoes he picked up from the cobbler that very morning

Overjoyed with the music, he spun his partner around in circles on the dance floor. Taking one step to each beat, her feet became tangled and gave way. She crumpled into Harry’s arms, and with an awkward twist, his dance partner fell to the floor.

Falling on her bottom broke Wizard Lizard’s evil spell. The face of the once lovely maiden Graciella cracked, and gooey stuff fell to the floor. There were sounds of stitches breaking and fabric tearing, at which point the blue satin gown shredded into rags. Harry reached down to help the woman to her size thirteen feet.

The drums sounded, and several palace guards marched to the beat of the drum. The black magic failed. The guards surrounded and exposed Queen Eleana’s charade. Applause from the guests thundered among the laughing and booing of the crowd.

He knelt down beside the reclining frumpy queen. He lifted the black veil that screened her face from the guests. The sad Queen Eleana gritted her teeth. The gasps and shrieks of disgust from the crowd were overwhelming.

“Mother,” Harry said. “The charade is over. And in your evilness, I banish you from Tinkleshire. Your punishment is to live among the trolls in the moat beneath the drawbridge. Take Wizard Lizard with you. He is no good to anyone any longer in the kingdom.”

Harry extended his hand to her. She clenched her hand and swiped her long fingernails at him, but his fast reflexes caught her hand, and he pulled her to her feet. She fought his touch. Harry raised her skirt to above her ankles. She had tiny feet and wore an elegant pair of dancing slippers. Dancing shoes fashioned from the work of a great cobbler. Harry’s dimples deepened. He knew this transformation was the result of Wizard Lizard’s black magic. The ugly creature sitting on her bottom was Graciella.

The partying guests held their breath. The room was so quiet that if a pin dropped to the floor, it would make a sound. Harry knew that he held the fair maiden Graciella in his arms. He took in a mouthful of air and exhaled. Goose bumps shimmered across his skin.

A miracle was happening in front of everyone’s eyes. In amazement of the party guests, the old hag’s face was changing. The corners of her mouth turned upward, and her smile lit up the room. Her words were soft and gentle. “Prince Harry, I know what you want, and your wish will come true.”

He could hear every breath he took. She was once beautiful, and his wish was that her beauty would return. He stooped down and kissed her black lips. His quick intake of breath and shaky exhale brought forth a cheer from the crowd.

“Wizard Lizard’s evil spell is no more,” the people shouted with glee.

The moment that the prince kissed her, Graciella’s dusty gray face became fresh as a flower. She found herself wearing the most beautiful party gown she had ever seen. A hush fell over the room.

“Who can that be?” the people asked in unison.

“What difference does it matter?” Prince Harry answered.

He bowed from the waist and asked, “Will you dance with me?”

She made a dainty bow. “Yes. Prince Harry.”

The prince requested the orchestra to play one Waltz after another. Romance bloomed rather quickly. She began to open herself up to Prince Harry. Her face felt flush and a light dizziness overcame her. Gabriella’s feet barely touched the floor. It was a wonderful and terrifying feeling at the same time. And holding each other felt as right as the night’s sky holding the stars.

He danced with the beautiful chambermaid all evening. Harry’s knees were shaking. His heart pounded. He felt his palms sweating. In front of everyone at the ball, Harry knelt down on one knee and said, “I have fallen in love with you, Graciella.” And, in front of the palace guests, he asked, “Will you marry me?”

“But, Prince Harry, I scrub floors in the palace, and my father is a poor merchant.”

“I know who you are, and it doesn’t bother me. I know that you are a chambermaid in the Tinkershire palace. I also know that you are the daughter of a shoemaker. But a chambermaid, no more you will be. And your father, the cobbler of Tinkershire, will now make shoes for all of the noblemen in neighboring lands.”

The prince reached into his breast pocket. In his hand, he held a beautiful engagement ring. “My darling Graciella, I’ve carried the ring around in my pocket for several years. I held hope within my heart that I would find the woman who I’d marry.”

She licked her lips in eagerness. He put his arms around her waist. Pulling her toward him, the kiss was soft and magical. She could hear bells ringing. The kiss filled her up with love. All eyes were on them, but they didn’t care. It felt as if the whole world cheered for them.

In that one kiss, she then knew what was behind Prince Harry’s quirky smile and everything old became brand new. The cobbler made his daughter an elegant pair of wedding shoes with spun gold. And the palace seamstress stitched a gown of silk and lace for the princess bride.

The chambermaid became Princess Graciella when she married Prince Harry. There was a tremendous wedding feast in Tinkershire Castle. Guests from foreign lands came to celebrate the royal wedding. Noblemen from neighboring castles brought gifts of grapes harvested from their vineyards. The servants and subjects of the castle gave simple homemade gifts of love.

The food was plentiful and the music filled the air with joyfulness. Prince Harry and Lady Graciella ruled over the Glenn of Emerald.

There was great happiness within the Tinkershire castle walls. The harvests were plentiful and the merchants were paid well for their goods.

The Prince and Princess were given the most precious gift anyone could ever want. Graciella gave birth to twins. The royal family grew. They are now a family of four when a boy named Tinker and a girl they called Grace were born. It was now a time of great joy.

Author talks about NEW Christmas book…familychristmas4

The 2016 holiday season is upon us. Yesterday, Mr. Ed and I attended an early Thanksgiving dinner social at our church. It was an afternoon of good food, wonderful fellowship and the entertainment was outstanding. A threesome from the Way, Way off Broadway Theater in Roswell, entertained the guests with a medley of songs from their 2016 musical performances.

There was a feeling of Christmas in the air. The afternoon was a great opportunity to promote myself as a writer. I chatted with numerous guests and passed out my business card. It also lent me the chance to talk about my new Christmas book, and how it would make a great stocking stuffer.

I was able to take pre-orders for my new book… Christmas Stories for the Whole Family; Short stories for the season. The book is scheduled to release around Thanksgiving.

Author K. Lorraine presents Snuggles Bedtime Stories, Book Three: Christmas stories for the whole family; Short stories for the season.

WHAT IS A BLOG TOUR?

November 12th, 2016

What is a blog tour?th-10A blog tour is like a book signing tour, except you are doing it online. Their main success lies in increasing awareness of your book and your author name. The fundamental aim of blog tours is to build relationships with your potential readers. Plus, I need to organize the launch and publicity for book # 3, Christmas Stories for the Whole Family; Short Stories for the Season.

There are several different kinds of blog tours. I’ve decided that a ‘Review Tour’ fits my needs the best. A Review Tour offers the opportunity to review the author’s book in exchange for a book review.

Credible reviews are difficult to come by, so this is a great tour to receive guaranteed reviews of your book. I’m aware that guaranteed reviews do not equate to a guaranteed good review. But, the rule does state that a reviewer will agree not to post a review that is less than three stars until after the tour is finished. A review is rated between one and five.

If you want to participate in the ‘Review Tour,’ Instant message me on FB and indicate that you want to read the book. Include your name, and email address. If you read this blog on WordPress, you can reach me through making a comment. Either way, I will return a free PDF copy of the book.

I am offering the readers in this book promotion, the opportunity to win a copy of my Christmas book. It won’t cost you anything to enter the giveaway. I’m just asking you to post your LIKE and add a comment about the book on Facebook. And then, go to my webpage, http://klorraine.com and join my mailing list. This list is confidential and will not be shared.

Please ask your friends and network groups to share my social media posts and tweets. Copy this blog and please forward it to your those on your mailing list.

THE DARK SIDE OF BEING DIFFERENT–Blog #8–October 31, 2016

Halloween Day

Today is the final story blog written for the 2016 Halloween season. I hope you enjoyed the trip to the dark side. Be on the safe side when you Tick or Treat tonight. Happy Halloween my friends, and I‘ll see you soon with new blogs of Funn things I blog about.

K. Lorraine

The Dark side of Being Different

Darkness protects us from seeing the things we would rather not see. She was gone and he needed to run or face a life of interment in the underground penal camps. They had taunted him and he didn’t have time to weep over his deceased mother’s body.

He was different from his peers on Eco. His parents saw fit to arrange for his transport. From a faraway planet, Oden came to live beneath the Earth’s catacombs in New York City. But he knew he had to flee from there too, or he would perish.

Oden, and his fellow aliens of Planet Eco were a race of giants. They were gentle. Eco was a planet that didn’t commit atrocities, or torture innocent creatures. They did not lay claim over their people to be victorious. They weren’t particularly loathsome or terrible.

They were noble, charming and indifferent. They possessed beautiful feral brown eyes and disheveled brown hair.

Oden’s mother was an alien endowed with a mid section of enormous proportion. Her inherent absent-mindedness gave her a misfit quality. She was always in a hurry. Her large feet forced her clumsiness. Azalia, Oden’s mother, fell in love with Sprat.

Sprat, unlike his wife, was a handsome Alien specimen. He was blessed with windswept chestnut hair that arched across his hairy forehead. His high cheekbones showed off his otherwise handsome face. His tall, slim build was deceptive. And the alien colony referred to the couple as unusual.

cyclopse-picAfter their marriage, Azalia soon became pregnant. She gave birth to a defective one-eyed Alien boy and his parents named him Oden. The alien colony ostracized the couple, because the appearance of their child was displeasing. In spite of the criticism, Sprat loved his wife and son. He did everything in his power to protect them from the harsh alien community where they lived.

Oden possessed a violent and sometimes uncontrollable nature that he used against his peers. Azalia worked hard to teach Oden methods to help calm and control his behavior.

She knew of the mirrored land called Planet Earth. She read about the planet Earth’s history. The earth had developed a means to tame children with behavioral problems. Azalia wanted to send Oden to earth. She thought the evilness that possessed her child would die. Her plea was to help Oden achieve inner peace.

Azalia was sure their problems would end if they moved to Planet Earth. She said, “My husband, our son is troubled, and this is causing him to lose more control. If we don’t act soon, we might lose him forever in the behavioral correction camps of the Aliens.”

Sprat answered, “Azalia, I know how much you want our son to be normal. And with sympathy, I understand it is your desire to make this happen, regardless of the costs. Wife, if it will help Oden, then we must move.”

The Planet Eco was a safe, clean and a brilliant environment. The Planet’s World Leader created the embodiment of positive progressive growth. Unaware of the dangers ahead, Oden and his parents moved to earth.

The citizens of earth were hungry. The water was putrid. The air was sour, and its citizens lived in surroundings covered in dust and filth.

Oden didn’t understand the meaning of a vision his mother described on the day of her death. She spoke of angels. She characterized the sound of ethereal music with its beauty. The colors that surrounded her were vivid. It was a place filled with everlasting peace.

Oden’s mother died without warning after inhaling Earth’s stagnated air. It saddened him that he was now alone without his mother. Sprat returned to his home, Planet Eco, along with his wife’s body to mourn her death. He left his son on Earth alone.

Looking into the future seemed fruitless for Oden. He failed to see how this new World called Earth, would help him. He only saw that his life would end in death. He too would die by prolific disease.

Microscopic bacteria and tiny micro-orgasms lived in the wastewater of the city sub level. He reasoned that humans had become immune to the abundant toxicity existing around them. But his immune system was pristine. He would not live long enough to acclimate to the sub-territory beneath the city.

The earthling majority warned Oden that his deformity was punishable. They judged his punishment by the prior acts of his parents.

The humans called Oden a Cyclops and they feared him because he was different. With a disheartened perspective, Oden feared he would never experience the beauty of love. The humans banished him to live his life at the deepest level of the sewers under New York City.

For the first time in his meager existence, Oden was cognizant of his deformity. A disgrace that he could no longer ignore. A thousand lightning flashes radiated from his eye. Wrath, hatred, despair, and anger came forth. He used the power bestowed by his departed mother. Her power was strong enough to remove the disease and pestilence from the Earth’s air and oceans.

The release of the epic energy calmed his violence and his broken heart began to mend. In an instant, he absolved humanity of their stupidity for decimating the rain forests. The depleted of the world’s natural resources began to re-strengthen.

With forgiveness for the chaos, Oden was no longer a pathetic and lonely Cyclops. But, he no longer had the power to free himself from the anguish of a heart that discovered brokenness.

Scion, a beautiful street dancer, was sent from Planet Eco by Sprat. She came to Earth to find Oden. It was her job to show him all the excitement and wonderment of the world above through her eyes.

Scion was in awe of Oden’s reverence and humility, but she was too late. She saw Oden pull his knife from his belt and thrust it into his heart. His full lips quivered, his chest heaved starving for air to fill his lungs. His thoughts were drowning him, and Scion’s voice went unheard; Oden fell to the ground.

Scion rushed to his side. She offered him a drop of water. But from the orb which had been so dry, a big tear fell, trickled down the Cyclops’ eye and moistened the earth.

She cradled the dead mutant’s head in her lap. She closed his one eye. “Oden, your father sent me to return you to your native world. Your actions on Earth were to open the eyes of the citizens to your bravery and heroism. But if your actions failed, then it was my duty to return you to your homeland. I see that they still hide in the darkness with closed eyes. They avoid seeing the things they would rather not see.”

Scion did as Sprat asked of her. She accompanied Oden’s body from the underground catacombs of New York City. An intergalactic shuttle brought the body home to a hero’s welcome. He had proselytized his hatred into a selfless act. Oden’s hope was to save humanity on a dying planet that mirrored his beloved homeland.

At his memorial service, Scion elaborated in her eulogy. “When you are different, life in the darkness is sometimes the only place where you can hide.”

She spoke of how the gentle Cyclops left his home planet as an outcast. But he came home to his native world. Regardless that he lost his life in the process, he deserved the humanitarian award.

On Halloween night, it’s not uncommon to see the other side of being different. But the day after, come back into the light to normalcy. Whatever, that might be…

Happy Halloween everyone!

OPEN ARMS–Blog # 7, October 30th, 2016

October 30th, 2016

Day seven—blog #7 of Fright week, Scary Halloween stories.

2014 contest entry. Contest prompt; Open Arms.

Beware, the demons in your mind might awake and consume you.

Warning—explicit adult language

Open Arms

I remember running and running. The forest was thick. The ground was covered with fallen trees, and pine needles littered the path, making it difficult for me to keep up the pace. I had lost my sandals somewhere along the way and my feet were bare.

Scraped and bleeding, my feet felt the fire of pain. The white nightshirt that covered my sweat stained body exposed my nakedness. Ringlets of brown dyed hair hung down my shoulders. The wet hair left a brown ring of moisture around the neckline of my gown.

I labored in my breathing. My body was weak and tired… so tired. I finally cleared the woods and the open field ahead was beautiful. The green grass was calling my name and it invited me to lay down and rest. I sank to my knees and began to relax as I sank to the ground. I was drifting off into a deep slumber…girlinwoods-1

I felt a sense of peace, well-being and painless sleep. For the first time in years, my emotions were positive. I felt a sense of removal from the world. An awareness of being dead. And then, I entered into the world of darkness. I was moving upward faster and faster through a passageway toward a powerful light. I was in communication with someone. I had an intense feeling of unconditional love and acceptance. I saw my life flash before my eyes…

According to my mother, my birth was not easy. I was a ‘blue’ baby and she didn’t hear me cry when I was born. I was black and blue from the forceps slipping and cutting up the right side of my face. A pediatric nurse gave me a tracheotomy to help me breathe.

I found myself in time travel. Speeding forward to when I was five. I was still speeding through the tunnel of light and remembering that I was seventeen.

My head was spinning. The visions blurred. The dream always started and ended the same. Kneeling, I looked down upon myself. I was kneeling too.

I am frantic trying to untie a knot. I am upset and I keep getting hit in the face. And throughout the years when the dream happened over and over, I just got used to it. I convinced myself that I would be better if I drifted off into a permanent sleep.

In this dream, I felt like a puppet with its string cut. My body went limp; I stopped struggling. And all the stress left my body. I felt calm and peaceful. I began to wonder why I lost interest in those knots that used to seem important.

I knew now that I was having an out of body experience. I looked down and saw my tear stained face. I could see my spirit standing beside me with arms stretched open wide. My spirit was warm and so celestial.

The blood and sweat stains on my clothing were now cleansed. I was so beautiful, perfect in my laundered white nightshirt.

I could feel my spirit look at my colorless, lifeless, cold body. The spirit told my body goodbye. I started to move away in slow motion. I wanted to go into the warm circular opening toward the light.

My body separated with my spirit. Everything was happening from another perspective. All things from that moment went backwards to segments of my life. The review was not like a judgment… it was passive, more like an interesting novel.

It was then that I began to understand my dream and why I ran away from my life, family and home. Those knots represented my struggling. They represented my half brother’s sexual games. But why wouldn’t I allow myself to remember what was happening to me while he exploited me?

My spirit spoke and said, “You didn’t want to accept that his incest acts were not normal… they were evil. You survived, but you were not strengthened by his heinous sexual torture. But today, you realized that he was pulling you down into a spinning vortex and that you needed to get out.”

I remember grasping at the sides within the dark cavern, but there was nothing for my hands to hold onto.

He was grinning at me with blackened eye sockets and a gaping open mouth. I closed my eyes and pleaded for him to stop… it was the most horrendous experience I had ever gone through. But then, I managed to open my eyes, I screamed, forcing myself from shaking hands with the grim reaper.

I gouged and clawed at his face and somehow I found the strength to push my half brother off me. Our parents weren’t home. I remember running through the house in the white nightshirt. My sandals lay on the floor by the front door, and I leaned over to grab them.

I was approaching a border, or a decision to return to my body. The hellish experience I lived through finally came to rest. For most of my life I was dependent on the outer limits of my brother’s actions. I came to the realization of the greater truths and the power of inner peace.

I was then in the most beautiful garden I’d ever seen. I felt whole and loved. HE said, “It’s up to you whether you come to me.”

I heard celestial music. I saw bright colored flowers, gorgeous greenery and trees. I’d never seen anything so beautiful before. It was exactly the way the Bible had described heaven. Maybe it was fate that brought me here. I thought. Life doesn’t change, you change it.

Fact or Fiction… or was this a clever Halloween story to scare you?

You decide; and Happy Halloween reading.
